Ahoy There Maties! Welcome to the December addition of the Gilligan's Island Fan Club. As of this letter, we now have a total of 1,918 fan club members! WOW! I've been so busy here on the island, that I have not spent too much time on the web page, but I did manage to add some tidbits for your viewing enjoyment. The Gilligan's Island Golf Course was located and has been brought to you by our very own Diane Yancey. She took a visit to this wonderful place and thanks to her, you can see photo's of the course! You can also print out a coupon and receive a discount at the park! I wish I lived closer! http://home.san.rr.com/gilligan/gigolf.html Another member, Colette, was kind enough to send us a tape of the Fat Boys singing their rap song to the tune of you know what. It's quite interesting, and if you have RealAudio, you can hear this song on our page at: http://home.san.rr.com/gilligan/realaudio.html From what I understand, the Gilligan's Island Movie is a scratch, atleast for now! Sherwood has informed us that the movie won't be sailing any time soon. I guess we've all given up hope for this film. Oh well, maybe in the 21st century?! We just found out that there is a Gilligan's Restaurant and Bar in Scottsdale, Arizona. We hope to have more info in the next newsletter. If anybody else has some more news about this restaurant please let us know as I couldn't find anything on the web about this one. Since we're on the restaraunt roll, I thought that it would be fun to list some real Gilligan's Island restaraunts! http://www.lewes-beach.com/gilligans.html Gilligan's Restaurant. Lewes, Delaware. The prices look pretty reasonable and it's located right on the harbor. http://www.scad.com/gilligans/ Gilligan's steamer and Raw Bar located on John's Island, SC. Prices look a bit pricy, but the food looks pretty tasty. http://www.dining-out-guide.com/story/cove.html Gilligan's Cove on Satellite Beach in Brevard (wherever that is). The state is either in North Carolina or Florida. This place is a must and looks like a steal with Las Vegas buffet style prices! Real cheap and all you can eat! I really want to hear about this one! WOW! If anybody stops in at one of these places, please send me your report on how the food was, ect.. so we can add it to the page. We'll also give you credit as we always do to folks that help us out. I'm still receiving questions about the Gilligan's Island trivia section. If you e-mail our Trivia Site Manager MaryAnn at: doodee@roxboro.net she'll be able to point you in the right direction. There has been talk about more Gilligan's Island dolls from Exclusive Premier coming out soon. We've contacted the company and are still waiting for a response to this rumor. How's this for some good 'ol Gilligan trivia? What were the three songs in the musical version "Hamlet" based on? 1. "I Ask To Be" is based on "Habanera" from Georges Bizet's "Carmen" 2. "Hamlet, Hamlet, Do Be A Lamb" is based on Franz Schubert's "Bacarolle" 3. "Neither A Borrower Nor A Lender Be" is based on "The Toreador Song", also from "Carmen" Special thanks to Elaine Baker for being so knowledgeable and supplying us with the Hamlet teasers! She should really think about being a contestant on Jeopardy. Still looking for "Isle Thing" by Weird Al Yankovic from the UHF album. If anybody has it and can float us a copy we'll put your name up in lights! Fan Club member Greg Corlew e-mailed Bob Denver (Gilligan) and he was actually answered! Here is what Bob had to say. Greg Corlew asks:  Of all the celebrities who washed up on the shores of "Gilligan's Island", which one really made the biggest impression on you? Bob replies:  We had some great guest stars over the years.  People like Zsa Zsa Gabor, Kurt Russell (as a child actor), Vito Scotti, Rory Calhoun, Don Rickles and Phil Silvers, but our very first guest star Hans Conreid as Wrongway Feldman was one of my favorites.  When I read the script and imagined the character of Wrongway, I didn't come close to the hilarious character Hans created.  A fine actor with credits up the wazoo, he made every scene more fun than the last.  Is it any wonder we asked him back for a second episode the minute the first one was finished?  My second favorite would have to be Don Rickles.  He arrived on the set the first day and behaved perfectly, very actor-like for the first two days of shooting, then the third day he started with the insults the minute he walked in the door at 8 a.m., and didn't stop until 5:30.  I had invited James Arness from "Gunsmoke" and Bob Conrad from "Wild, Wild West" to visit while Don was working with us.  They walked 20 feet onto the stage, were hit with 15 insults, gave us a smile and a wave, and walked back out the door. bob@bobdenver.com Please mention the fan club if you decide to write him. At the beginning of this newsletter, I didn't think that I had all that much to write about. Boy was I wrong! Anyways, I need to hit the old hammock. It's 11:30 pm here on the island and the temperature is about 80 degrees. Doesn't feel too much like Christmas here, but when MaryAnn makes her famous seaweed soup, and the Skipper BBQ's the pig, man will we have a feast!!! Of course the coconut cream pie will top off a perfect evening. Merry Christmas to everybody, and we'll talk to you in the year 1999. (that sounds too weird)."Smooth Sailing."
