Aloha Maties! Welcome to the April edition of the Gilligan's Island Fan Club. Things have been real quiet here on the island. Not much to do but relax and eat coconut cream pie all day long. I guess life could be worse. To start it off, the Trivia site is down and has been abandoned. This fellow named Steve, was nice enough to make a Gilligan's Island trivia site on his server at work. He had the Brady Bunch and I Love Lucy trivia as well. Over the years, Lucy and the Brady trivia wasn't kept up by their webmasters, and they were soon gone. We elected to stick with it, and up until now, had the best daily Gilligan trivia on the Internet. This past year, the trivia site was down so much, that it's almost just as well that it's gone now. If any of you out there on the mainland know something about setting up a daily trivia site, and can host it on your server, please let us know. Until then, we will no longer have one. In short, we are stranded once again until help arrives!!! We are looking for a new "Mrs. Howell." If you love "Lovey," and want to take part in our site as a castaway, please drop us a line. Tell us about your Gilligan experience, books, videos, knowledge, etc... We have a new Gilligan comic on the site donated by John McNally. You can check it out at the top of this page: http://www.gilligansisle.com/comics.html Here's some interesting trivia that even I didn't know. On the "Brady Bunch" episode entitled "The Hustler," Mike's boss (Jim Backus, Thurston) sends a pool table to the family as a gift. (Oh, I remember that one now!) Holy Island Hopping!!! On "Batman" in episode #102 "The Ogg and I," Chief O'Hara goes into Gilligan's Restaurant to order lunch. The owner - Gilligan is none other than Alan Hale Jr. (Skipper) This episode was aired in November of 1967. Alan probably did this right after Gilligan's Island was taken off the air. Paul & Diane tells us that on an old Mayberry RFD episode, Sharlene was divorcing Gilligan. She wanted to marry Andy by going through old Folk lore ways. Gilligan (known as Doug Wash) came in trying to pick a fight with Andy two different times. True, the Gilligan cast wasn't in this series, but maybe that's where the producers picked the name "Gilligan." Helynn Schufletowski was looking through some information on the Mister Ed television show and discovered that Alan Hale, Jr. (Skipper) was a guest star on one episode. He played Karl Dickenson, who went to college with Wilbur. According to the episode synopses, "Wilbur's college nemesis, Karl Dickenson, is in town and wants to torment Wilbur "Dippy" Post once again. He challenges Wilbur and Ed to a steeple jump contest with him and his snooty horse, McTavish. What does the S.S. stand for in the S.S. Minnow? I've heard many answers, and I'm still not 100% sure what it means. I heard is was short for Steam Ship. I also heard that it was made up. U.S.S. is what we are accustomed to, and HMS as well. Maybe one of you expert boatsmen out there know for sure what the S.S. means in S.S. Minnow. Thankx Michael Ryan for sending us that question. Dawn Wells stars in an episode of "Growing Pains" on April 6th. Maggie (Joanna Kerns) lives up to her supermom image by juggling her personal and professional lives. Dawn Wells and Julie Cobb guest star. It's on the Disney Channel East at 6:00pm. I just found out about it, sorry for the late notice. Tina Louise appears in "Johnny Suede." A rock 'n' roll wannabe's naive fantasies of stardom leave him ill-prepared for the harsher realities of life. April 19th at 2:00am and 4:00pm on the Comedy Channel. Hey, let's CHAT this Saturday. Come here and talk to your fellow fan club members. http://www.gilligansisle.com/chat.html Well, not much castaway news this time around, kind of a slow month. Anyway, it's time to listen to the weather report. The Professor heard that a typhoon is on it's way and will be here tomorrow. I guess we need to batten down the hatches. Oh, I just found out where Thurston was hiding his vintage bubbly! Maybe instead of listening to the weather report, I'll just have a little party of my own. What does the Professor know anyway!
