Aloha! I can't believe we are already in the month of March, and still no rescue! Mary Ann just spotted a boat at the beach, but we think it was just those radioactive carrots kicking in again. OK, on with the March newsletter. We are excited to finally have a write-up for Alan Hale's Lobster Barrel! If anybody else has any info to add about this restaurant please let us know. http://www.gilligansisle.com/lobster.html We mentioned in an alert newsletter that a Gilligan's Island Musical is in San Diego, CA. The musical was such a huge success that's it's being extended for two more weeks! If you have never seen a Gilligan's Island musical then you are really missing a wonderful Gilligan experience. I've seen two of them and they have both been great! If the show was put together correctly you should be smiling throughout the whole performance. Unfortunately most of you don't live in southern California but folks are getting into the Gilligan spirit and these shows are becoming more popular. It wouldn't surprise me if 10 of these shows were going on as we speak. A detailed review of this musical will be at the bottom of this newsletter. Interesting enough, Ginger is actually the Webmaster for their site! http://www.theatrx.8m.com/ A magician wrote us and said that Gilligan's Island had influenced him to become a witch doctor named "Dr. Cardoo... The Jungle Magic Man." He performs his act in Florida. http://www.drcardoo.com Want to hire the castaways to your next party? How about Clint Eastwood? These are of course NOT the real actor's but some of these people look pretty darn close! The guy imitating Clint Eastwood looks just like the real thing! These actor's have appeared in movies and sitcoms, and will only cost you a mere $2,000 - $4,000! Not bad, eh? (right!) The castaways don't look at all like us. You can probably find a better looking crew on your block. This site is interesting never the less. http://www.lookalikes.net/Photo_Gallery/photo_gallery.html BTW - Their site seems a little slow!!! Want another Gilligan shirt? The Lands' End is selling them for $30. The only difference is that it's a short-sleeve. I guess you could be a summer Gilligan. Go to http://www.landsend.com then search for rugby, then hit "Men's Short-sleeve Shoulder Patch Rugby." Thanks Fluff for letting us know! Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) has been on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno and performs in a skit called "Celebrity Survivor." Keep an eye out for this one! I hope she hasn't been voted off yet! Thanks Kevin N. For those of you who didn't see the Gilligan's Island parody on Mad TV, here's how it goes. All of the characters spoke in Spanish. The Professor was trying to make a hot air balloon so they could get off the island. Gilligan was eating beans and when they tried to light the flame for the hot air balloon, Gilligan had a gas attack at the same time and blew it up. So they weren't able to get off of the island again, thanks to Gilligan. The episode was #612 called "La Isla de Gilligan." Maybe it will run again in March. Thanks Lisa for the plot. This guy named Webkrawler has done something interesting. He has made a Gilligan's Island theme from Voyager clips. If you are a Trekkie then you'll like this! http://www.batcave.net/arts/visual/voyagerisle/ Some people have asked us, "Why don't you make your web site cool with better graphics and eye candy?" The answer to this is simple. "I don't know." Well actually, I've asked many folks to make us a cool flash demo, but they always seem to fall through. To make the whole site "top of the line" would dramatically slow down the pages. We feel that if we made it easy and not use a lot of frames, the pages would load faster and you could find what you need without waiting forever to get the piece of info you want. We still would like a cool flash demo tho'. Anybody? Hey, let's all CHAT this Saturday! http://www.gilligansisle.com/chat.html That's all for now. All this talk about musicals makes me want to put on another Harold Hecuba production. Maybe this time we'll do a musical version of "Survivor Outback - Pacific Style." "Smooth Sailing" Willy Gilligan President/Webmaster Official Gilligan's Island Fan Club http://www.gilligansisle.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Gilligan's Island Musical Review: When I first arrived at the TheatRX in Escondido I had mixed feelings. The theatre was real small (seated about 20) and you can easily drive by it if you aren't looking real close. (I drove by it the first time) Once inside, it reminded me of a small bar or a little coffee house. As soon as you walk in you can see the stage with the island props about 60 feet away. Looking at the cool backdrop and the stage props made me smile, as I knew I was in for a treat! The atmosphere was very relaxed. The owner gave us a speech and we were all told to laugh hysterically and stomp our feet when we applauded as it would enhance our experience. You know what? It worked!!! The Castaways' came out singing and dancing and everything feel into place. The writer of the script really knew what he was doing when he did this show! Gilligan was dorky. The Skipper played an interesting role and I'll tell you all about it when the show ends. For those of you who saw the show you know what I mean. Thurston was fantastic! He spoke with a perfect Harvard accent and you could almost swear that it WAS the Millionaire. His wife 'Lovey' was also great! The expressions she had were exactly like Mrs. Howell's. And then there was Ginger. This actress must have watched the show 1,000 times because she had all the right moves! She was sexy and could make the Professor blush! She even came into the audience to flirt. Wow! Then came the Professor and Mary Ann. The Professor was funny, and I enjoyed his scientific experiments and his use of technical words. It was fun watching him squirm when Ginger made advances towards him. Mary Ann was just plain cute, just how Mary Ann should be. And then there was the Head Hunter. I wasn't sure if I would like this character or not. For one thing, the Head Hunter was a woman. But during the musical, she became very funny and even cute at times. It didn't take me long to like her. She also came out into the audience and played with us a bit. If you are in the San Diego area it would behoove you to see this performance. Bring your friends! You'll have the time of your life! The musical is based on the 7 deadly sins that each castaway portrays, with Gilligan being the Devil. It is an adult show, but if you have a 10 year old Gilligan freak in your house, he/she would probably enjoy it. Thumbs up for a great show!
