From Wendy @ www.bradyworld.com Ever watch "Get Smart?" Most of you at least heard of the show, right? There is an episode called "Schwartz's Island." The Smarts' honeymoon cruise ends when their sailboat blows up. They drift to an uncharted island, which soon proves to be owned by KAOS chief Seigfried. He and his henchman have erected a giant magnet to pull US Naval ships off course. With an assist from the Chief, CONTROL and Agent Larrabee, the Smarts' turn the island's device to their own advantage. In case you haven't noticed, we have a new mailing list provider from mailinglists.com. We are here to stay. Here's an article sent to us by Phil about the upcoming show "Surviving Gilligan's Island." LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - When "Gilligan's Island" debuted in 1964, "we bonded because the critics hated us so much," says Dawn Wells, a.k.a. Mary Ann. More than 30 years later, reporters can hardly all fit into the room where series alumni gather at the Television Critics Association Press Tour to talk about the upcoming CBS special "Surviving Gilligan's Island: The Incredibly True Story of the Longest Three-Hour Tour in History." The difference?" We raised you," Wells says slyly. "And we did a good job." Lately, in fact, it's become rather chic to be stranded on an island. "I'd like to go on "Survivor", says Wells, who still bears Mary Ann's wholesome sparkle, coupled with her own distinct wit. "I think it's an interesting phenomenon. When "Survivor" came on about 400 radio stations called to ask my opinion." "Surviving Gilligan's Island" takes what executive producer Paul A. Kaufman describes as a "Spinal Tap" approach to "documenting" the creation of the infamous isle. While the show struggled in its early years, more than three decades of reruns (it's never been off the air) leave the former islanders with no doubts as to its popularity. Russell Johnson, who played the asexual, ingenious Professor -- who could turn a coconut into a radio but couldn't build a boat -- said he and other cast members recently appeared at a biotech conference in San Francisco and spoke to a crowd of scientists and PhDs. "And every one of them was a fan of "Gilligan's Island," Johnson marvels. Let's all chat this Saturday. It's been a while since we've invited folks to go there, so let's do it. See you there this Saturday. http://www.gilligansisle.com/chat.html Well, that ends another fun-filled newsletter. I have to get back to work anyway. The Professor found a Japanese submarine in the lagoon yesterday, and there was even a Japanese sailor in it! He wanted to capture us, but then he got a glimpse at Ginger and Mary Ann and decided to stick around for a couple days. His sub was loaded with Japanese rice, and coupled with the seaweed and fish from our island, we've been eating sushi like crazy! Oh, and did I mention... he also had soy sauce aboard!
